On Sunday evening when I came back home after joining the discussion on Freedom-Thought and Human Rights, I intended to write a report about the discussion today but I just found that there was a TV show on the Supannahongse Awards presentation, this event organized by group of people in film industry, it can be considered the Academy Awards ceremony in Thailand.

Normally I should not have followed this TV show since I rarely watched the commercial Thai films during last year  but the show kept me watching because one of my favorite films, so-called Indy or non-mainstream film was nominated and won many Awards.  This is Wonderful Town, it won the best film, director, picture and play. Fabulous!

I was invited to watch this film when it’s screened during the Independent Film Directors Festival last year in May by one of the female director, Ms.Pimpaka Towira, she is one of  indy directors who produced  film documentary, The Truth Be Told.

I am surprised that indy film such as Wonderful Town  won many Awards on this event,  it is a good sign.

The film that few people even knew who’re the actor and actress.  They’re new faces.

I also cannot remember their names.

I like this film because it is a good film, it shocked me beautifully.

It talks about love and  impulsive passion, loneliness and hatred, boring life of the common people,  commitment and selfishness, deep pain and pain and  pains.. The erotic scene is one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen on Thai movies. The main actress was very sincere acting her role with her lover-actor so you will be shocked when you realized the end of this story.

The most important point of this film is about using post-Tsunami as a background for the story so the passion of two lovers becomes unique because of the painful atmosphere in small town of  PhangNga after it was hit by the Tsunami in 2004.

If anyone ever visited that town after Tsunami, you would be scared. I was visiting there few days afer the Tsunami.

It was a real nightmare. No words could explain but you could feel it yourself.

“Life  can be so cruel” or “that’s the way life should be”, either this thought would come to your mind after you watch this film.  So life goes on as usual for the people in small town.  Outsiders come and go. No more greater pain it’s all the same.

Among the confusing feeling, you could feel relaxed, amused and aroused by so many beautiful and romantic scenes.  It is the film that really worth to watch and enjoy.  I am glad that it won many Awards in Thailand after has won many in abroad already.  It should inspire other  independent film directors and  film industry to create different taste of film. Even the Ministry of Culture in Thailand shall be inspired to open the mind for the films that might not have to say good things about Thai people or Thailand.  After you watched this film even it portrayed dark side of (Thai) human in small town of PhangNga, you will definitely want to come to visit this town and seek for this place and that place appeared on the film.  Locations selected in this film are very attractive.

Congratulation to producer, director and all the crews.  To the audiences too.

I look forward to watch this film again.
